We spend our time focusing on helping big companies act like start-ups, adopting lean techniques to develop products and services at speed. When the opportunity came along to pitch to be a part of the British Library ‘Innovating for Growth’ programme, we were excited by the chance to work with some of the most innovative small companies in the UK.
In April we were selected as the supplier for the ‘product and service innovation’ module, with the work kicking off this month.
Innovating for Growth
Over four years, the British Library run programme has helped over 250 small UK businesses to scale up.
The famous Tangle Teezer, who notably didn’t get backing from Dragon’s Den and can now be seen in stores from Selfridges to SuperDrug, benefited from the programme “having experts give us advice.. enabled us to reflect upon our current processes and knowledge gaps”.
The programme isn’t just for products, Kalory Photo and Video Studio have engaged with the programme and found that the benefits of being forced to step back and look at your business allows for reflection on strategy and readjustment of goals.
The programme attracts some of the UK’s most ambitious entrepreneurs and SMEs, that are looking to grow, and need guidance with the next steps.
It’s a successful programme: within one year of completing 70% of businesses who took part increased turnover and took on extra staff.
Here’s where we come in to help, we will be working with these 15 companies who will be growing their business over the coming three months on the programme.
How will Fluxx help?
As a supplier for the programme, we will use our 5 years of Product and Service innovation expertise, to help the scale-up community. These businesses have moved from the start-up phase and are looking for help to take the business to the next level.
We’ll be holding regular meetings and follow-up sessions with the successful companies, to provide them with the support and help that they need to make the next steps.
As businesses will range from Dragon’s Den featured start-ups to established organisations, this will be a learning curve for both sides of the programme. Whilst we’re used to working with big companies, the Fluxx team enjoys the chance to flex their entrepreneurial muscle and nurture ideas, wherever they come from!
The tradition of helping start-up founders was kick-started earlier this year through our successful #StartUpLunch programme – and we look forward to being able to expand the Fluxx input into a diverse set of new companies.
